Life is good. People say it all the time. There is a very successful line of t-shirts and other products, featuring that mantra. Sometimes, we all need to be reminded of that fact.

It is a new year filled with the possibility for new beginnings. How fantastic! So, where do we go from here? Let’s take a moment each day to remember why life is good.

Me? I’m keeping a life is good journal. I’m taking time each day to make note of one reason why my life is good. This process can also be called counting my blessings, to quote one of my very favorite Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney songs from White Christmas. In this way, whenever I have a bad day, I can read back through my journal and get some life is good pick-me-ups.

What does my life is good journal idea have to do with the Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce, you ask? Well, one of my primary duties is to put our region’s best foot forward and to promote the best we have to offer. Life is indeed good here at Lake Gaston.

It doesn’t mean that we don’t have our fair share of challenges or that we won’t face a few set-backs in the coming year. We are not, as my grandfather would say, making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. There may be a few weeds in the garden, but all of the beautiful blossoms we have in this region take center stage. Life is good here at Lake Gaston.

We have creative, patient and giving local businesses, as well as school systems, community colleges and hospitals, that drive our region’s economy and give back to our local charities and churches and train and employ our residents. Life is good here at Lake Gaston.

We have caring and committed elected officials and county and town employees who are working on a daily basis to promote the uniqueness of our communities and to connect those communities with the whole of the region. Life is good here at Lake Gaston.

We have many, many non-profits, churches and civic organizations that truly move the needle on issues and needs in our region to provide assistance to bridge the gap across generations and socio-economic status. Thank goodness for the Lake Gaston region’s available talent pool of retired executives, teachers, ministers, business owners, scientists, engineers, doctors and others who are now serving in volunteer capacities to do the good work of these organizations. Life is good here at Lake Gaston.

We have a very marketable tourism product that features but also stretches beyond our 20,000+ surface acres of water and our 350+ miles of shoreline. We have quaint downtowns with unique mom and pop shops and cafes. We have waterfront dining, where the taste of the cuisine is rivaled only by the views. We have many live theatre options in the region. There are artists, arts councils, and art classes. Enjoy DJs and live performers. There are state parks, trails, museums, historic sites, bird parks, and more, in addition to our on-water activities including watersports lessons and equipment rental. Need a place to stay to enjoy everything Lake Gaston has to offer? Discover RV camping, lodges, motels, hotels, bed & breakfasts and rental homes that accommodate anywhere from two to twenty-two+. Life is good here at Lake Gaston.

So, as you begin your new year here in the Lake Gaston region, take time to remember why you chose to come to Lake Gaston or why you chose to stay and enjoy every moment of the good life.
